Summary Focus Groups or Mini-Mock Juries

Description:

  1. Roundtable focus groups are scaled-down jury research exercises
  2. Roundtable jurors are randomly selected, screened for security issues, and then qualified as jury-eligible citizens from the venue
  3. The Jury Trial Consultants present a 5-page narrative summary including each party’s evidence, witness statements, and key arguments to Roundtable jurors
  4. Roundtable jury participants respond individually to questionnaires before and after hearing the case summary and then deliberate to a decision
  5. Roundtable research groups consist of 6 to 8 jurors per group
  6. The Jury Trial Consultants have streamlined the process to allow us to conduct back-to-back morning (AM) and afternoon (PM) phases.
  7. A total of 2 to 8 separate deliberation groups can be conducted in one day (total of 12 to 64 jurors)

Insight and Advantages:

  1. Roundtables are ideal for obtaining early feedback on juror impressions that can help to guide discovery.
  2. Roundtable focus groups are an alternative for cases with smaller budgets.
  3. The Jury Trial Consultants present the 5-page narrative summary (written by counsel) to roundtable jurors
  4. Counsel are not required to be present for the actual research, however, we can arrange for viewing (observation room or close-circuit monitor) upon request
  5. The Jury Trial Consultants two-phased research design allows for twice the number of groups to be conducted utilizing only one-day of resources.
  6. The two-phased, iterative design also allows for comparative testing across different evidence scenarios and/or immediate re-testing of adjustments made to afternoon presentations following feedback from morning deliberations.
  7. Work Product (Deliverables):
  • A streamlined report profiling roundtable focus group case perceptions, perceived strengths and weaknesses, individual and group verdict and award decisions.
  •  Digital video recording (DVDs) of all group deliberations
